Copy and paste a table from TX TextControl to a Spreadsheet such as Excel
If I copy and paste a table from a TX Text Control to either WordPad or Word, it pastes just fine.

But when I paste to Excel from TX TextControl, I get a column rather than a table.

However, when I copy a table from TX TextControl to WordPad, and then to Excel, I get a table.

Also, when I copy a table from TX TextControl to Word, and then to Excel, I get a table.

If I copy from TX TextControl to a Google Sheet, I get a column.

Bet when I copy a table from TX TextControl to WordPad, and then to a Google Sheet, I get a table.

The same happens if I copy a table from TX TextControl to Word, and then to a Google Sheet.

It is clear that TX Text Control does not behave similarly to other document programs with regard to copying and pasting tables.

I would like to explain why this copy and paste issue is important to us:

We use TX TextControl to display the output of our statistical software. The tables from our competitors’ output can be copied and pasted into Excel or Google Sheets seamlessly. To this point, we have been required to use the tabbing system in TX TextControl to produce tables. I’m not sure if 13 is still the limit to the number of tabs, but that has been a difficulty for us. Also, there are many cases where an inserted table would much better represent the results of a statistical analysis than a tab-based table.

Our users commonly copy and paste the results to Excel, or back into the spreadsheet that we use with the software. We’ve tried to implement using tables rather than tab-tables, but when those are copied and pasted into Excel, or back into our spreadsheet, the structure of the data is lost. (We use the GrapeCity Spread application for the Spreadsheet of our application). We cannot have our output go entirely to a GrapeCity Spread Spreadsheet for many, many reasons. For example, the tables need to be in line with graphs and other output.

If we could copy and paste tables into Excel and GrapeCity Spread, we would have greater flexibility in our ability to represent our statistical results. And we would be more in line with the capabilities of our competitors.

I hope this gives a context as to why copying and pasting tables properly is so important to us.

Regards,

Eric Hintze, PhD

NCSS, LLC
329 N 1000 E
Kaysville, Utah, 84037
USA
www.ncss.com
Phone: 801-546-0445
Fax: 801-546-3907
eric@ncss.com
